The Golden Button has been open for nearly two years! The retail shop is full of beautiful handmade one of a kind pieces. Over 40 area artists sell their hand crafted wares in the little shop in Historical South Britain.
Kate Gorham, a long time resident of Southbury opened the Golden Button in October 2011.
Kate, Who is an artist herself has always supported local craftsmen. Kate believes in “The Hand-Made Pledge” that states that you try to buy items that are hand-made or made in the United States whenever possible.”
“I opened this store to sell my own items but when the idea materialized I realized this is a great opportunity to develop an artist community”
The Golden Button’s focus is on inventory that is environmentally friendly, and uses recycled materials. Inventory includes pottery, jewlery, soaps and lotions, knitted items, printed items, sewn items… as well as yarn, fibers and different supplies for crafting and creating your favorite projects.
We offer all sorts of classes and workshops to children and adults. Many of our wonderful local artists teach these classes and hope to encourage others to support local artists!!
The Golden Button was voted Favorite Gift Shop in Southbury by the Patch Reader’s Choice 2012
and we were voted #2 Favorite Gift Shop in Connecticut by Simply Local CT!!!! In our first year!!!!
